HANAHAN FIRE STATION #3

Commercial / Institutional /

The newest fire station for the City of Hanahan is located in Tanner Plantation. Demonstrated by the reduced scale of the major fire fighting portion of the station, the design is strongly influenced by the context of the surrounding residential neighborhoods. Traditional house detailing, such as the multiple gabled roofs, were incorporated to allow this civic structure to better blend into the context of the neighborhood yet it is still clear the facility provides fire protection functions.

The design intent is carried through to the interior where it is focused on making the living environment of the fire fighters feel like “home”. Special care is devoted to the day room and sleeping areas in consideration of the long hours spent away from home at the fire station. Also housed in the facility are a satellite police station, and a training/multi-purpose room for civic and community events.
