The marina building at Ripley Light Yacht Club, located at the mouth of the Ashley River, is distinguished by its precision detailing and simplicity of materials; Ipe wood skin, powder coated steel structure, and tensile fabric roof. The panelized design allows for shop built panels, composed of varying 1″ and 2″ wide strips of Ipe that are attached to a 7′ long sub-frame, to be brought to the site where they are then attached to the steel skeletal frame already constructed on site. Strips of Ipe are strategically omitted at specific locations to allow for ventilation and/or transparency. The building’s program has two central components: office/storage area for marina staff; and support/restrooms/ showers for slip owners.
